Picture yourself out on the lake for a long day, the sun's beating down, you've got some cold drinks and good company, and this is what you wait all week for.
It's nice, but on those really hot days, there's a point where you've had enough sun but you aren't ready to pack it in and call it a day yet.
A bimini top is a simple little shelter that goes overhead to block the sun's rays. It can also block rain, but only on days that aren't very windy because the sides, front, and back are all exposed. The bimini top only offers protection from what's directly above.
Bimini tops can be a nice upgrade to your boat, but they do serve a very specific purpose and beyond that they can be somewhat limited in use. None the less, for their specific purpose of offering some shade, they do a great job. Think of them as kind of like a stationary umbrella, except they won't give you any bad luck if you don't take it off before entering the boathouse.
Our goal is to help you get setup with the perfect boat bimini top that's going to last you a very long time. By sticking to brands that use marine grade materials that are made to last, you won't have to worry about it failing you when you're counting on it.
You'll more than likely want something that's waterproof, of course, and other helpful features are UV protection, being resistant to mildew and mold, and something that won't stretch out over time or dry up and shrink and crack from exposure to the sun. It sounds like a tall order, but there are many options that fit the bill for a wide range of budgets.
Installing Bimini Tips on Boats
You can have it installed, but it's really not a very difficult DIY protect to do yourself in most cases. This can save you some cash that can go towards getting an even better top! You can get it done in as little as a couple of hours. It's important first of all to choose a top that fits your boat, and ideally one that comes with some sort of installation kit to make things easier.
Keep in mind that you'll also want to choose the size based on whether you plan on standing underneath, or simply sitting. You'll also want to take a look at the canvas color and make sure you're happy with how it'll match with any other color schemes in your boat.
We're not going to go super in depth into all of the details on how to install it, but basically it's a matter of choosing where you want it, securing a set of deck hinges in place to hold everything down, then assembling and securing the bimini top in place. Overall, it's not a very difficult project, especially these days when you can watch videos of people showing you exactly how to do it.
It does help to have a buddy around who can help you out with lining things up, and holding stuff in place.
There are tops designed to fit boats that have towers, there are some that can mount vertically to the sides of the vessel, there are the round-tube styles that fit most boats, specific designs for pontoons, and more. Take a look around at our selection and see what catches your eye, and if you're looking for something that you don't see in stock here, don't be shy to get in touch with us because we'll be happy to help you track it down!
